Substitute Teachers for PS-8th Grade

Princeton Friends School, a small, progressive PS-8th grade, Quaker school located in Princeton, NJ, seeks substitute teachers for all grade levels. The successful candidate should enjoy working with children; be reliable; possess strong classroom management and communication skills. Experience with teaching children is preferred.

As a leave replacement Math Teacher, providing instruction from approximately January 6th to March 20th, 2026, you’ll be at the heart of that mission—guiding students to think deeply, take risks in their problem-solving, and discover the joy and relevance of mathematics in their everyday lives.

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Head of School, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Implement math instruction to the 6th-Grade Prealgebra Class and 8th-Grade Geometry class, following and adapting the provided plans as needed
  • Foster a classroom where all children feel seen, heard, and supported—emotionally, socially, and academically
  • Collaborate closely with warm, talented colleagues and communicate regularly and effectively with families
  • Model empathy, kindness, and equity in all your interactions, and meet students where they are
  • Reflect on your practice, seek out professional growth, and actively contribute to our vibrant school community


What You Bring:

You are someone who:

  • Holds a degree in Math, Math Education, or Elementary Education (Master’s preferred)
  • Has 3–5 years of experience with elementary and/or middle school children (experience in a Quaker school a plus!)
  • Loves and respects children and believes that teachers and families should work together in support of them 
  • Brings creativity, patience, and a sense of joy to your teaching
  • Is able to work independently, and equally values and seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues 
  • Is comfortable with, or excited to learn, tools like Google Classroom and other educational tech
  • Has experience (or interest) in programs like Responsive Classroom and Bridges Mathematics 
  • Has the organizational skills needed to manage both teaching and administrative responsibilities
  • Holds a CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained upon hire)
  • Is flexible and understands that working in a small school often means wearing many hats and embracing community life
  • Believes that adult learning is never complete, and approaches professional development opportunities with excitement
  • Is eager to build relationships across differences and support an inclusive, anti-bias learning environment

Physical requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

 Stage Director

Join our team as the Stage Director of our Annual School Musical!

Are you a passionate educator who loves creating theater magic with elementary and middle school students? Do you enjoy working with large ensembles of children of all ages? Are you excited to be part of a community that values the contributions of every child just as much as artistic excellence? If so, you might be a great fit to be the Stage Director for our annual spring musical! 

What You’ll Do:

In collaboration with the Musical Production Team and under the supervision of the Head of School, you’ll work to:

  • Collaborate with the Production Team to finalize a rehearsal schedule (see below)
  • Collaborate with the Production Team to develop and implement the set design, costume design, and prop design for the musical
  • Block and rehearse all scenes in the musical
  • Collaborate with the Music Director to ensure songs are performance-ready
  • Collaborate with the Student Choreographer to block all dance numbers
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director to create a run sheet for the stage crew
  • Collaborate with the Audio Technician to create a mic sheet for the show and ensure the audio needs are met
  • Stay in communication with the Production Team and students’ families about relevant topics

Schedule:
 
The Stage Director is expected to be in attendance for all performances and any scheduled stage rehearsals. At the discretion of the Stage Director, rehearsals may be scheduled during any of the following times:

  • Mondays from 4:00-5:30 PM     (3:30-6:00 PM during tech week)
  • Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 PM     (3:30-6:00 PM during tech week)
  • Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30 PM     (3:30-6:00 PM during tech week)
  • Thursday from 4:00-5:30 PM     (3:30-6:00 PM during tech week)
  • Fridays from 1:00-4:00 PM

The Stage Director should be available for rehearsal on the following Saturday mornings (pending finalization of the rehearsal schedule):

  • Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 2nd from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Performances are scheduled for the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, May 7th at 1:30 PM (In-school dress rehearsal)
  • Thursday, May 7th at 6:30 PM (tentative)
  • Friday, May 8th at 6:30 PM
  • Saturday, May 9th at 3:00 PM
  • Sunday, May 10th at 3:00 PM (Rain Date, should the musical be held on the outdoor stage)

Stipend of $3000+, commensurate with education, training, and relevant experience.
