Service Learning

We approach service as reciprocal: students listen first, learn about real needs, and collaborate with partners rather than “helping” from afar. Schedule Your Campus Tour

Across grades, students connect classroom learning to meaningful action—researching issues, reflecting on impact, and practicing the skills of empathy, communication, and civic engagement. By centering relationships, students come to see themselves as responsible neighbors who contribute thoughtfully to shared goals. While service learning isn’t about a single opportunity to serve, several annual events anchor this work each year, including Walk for the World, Thanksgiving Day of Service, Earth Day, and Peace & Justice Day. On these occasions, we amplify our focus on learning and action—packing meals and essentials with local organizations, restoring habitats on nearby trails, singing for local seniors, walking to raise money for local nonprofits, and engaging in workshops on nonviolence, conflict resolution, and advocacy. These experiences, paired with ongoing class projects and reflection, help students understand systems, examine their own agency, and carry forward habits of service that last well beyond their time at Princeton Friends.

PFS not only encourages service, but teaches us how to do it meaningfully and helps us understand and see the people we are serving.
